Civil Utility Construction Technician (Full-Time)

TJ Cable & Underground Services is seeking a skilled Civil Utility Construction Technician to join our Omaha-based civil department. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for performing essential work on private and electrical utility projects—including pouring concrete slabs and pole bases, trenching duct banks, laying conduit, building manholes, setting vaults, and operating backhoes and related equipment.

Position: Civil Utility Construction Technician (Full-Time)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska – TJ Cable Headquarters

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pour and finish concrete slabs and pole bases for utility and lighting projects

  • Excavate trenches and dig duct banks using backhoes and other heavy equipment

  • Install conduit, electric lines, vaults, and manholes to support underground utility systems

  • Read and follow project plans, diagrams, and construction blueprints

  • Ensure all work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards

  • Collaborate with team members and project supervisors to maintain schedules and site safety

  • Assist with general labor and equipment operations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in utility or civil construction

  • Skilled in concrete forming, pouring, and finishing

  • Proficient with backhoe operation and other excavation equipment

  • Familiarity with underground electric construction, including conduit layout and installation

  • Able to read and understand construction drawings and utility maps

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to safety, communication, and teamwork

  • Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions

Preferred Skills (Not Required but a Plus):

  • Experience on private and commercial electrical utility projects

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

  • Concrete finishing certification or field-tested experience
