TJ Cable & Underground Services is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. In this critical role, you’ll be responsible for analyzing civil, electrical, and utility construction projects to determine the materials, labor, equipment, and time required for successful completion.
You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to develop accurate bids and proposals that reflect real-world conditions and TJ Cable’s standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. From reviewing blueprints and technical specifications to preparing competitive cost estimates and supporting business development efforts, the estimator plays a central role in our planning and project execution.

Position: Estimator (Full-Time)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska – TJ Cable Headquarters

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine scope and cost

Prepare detailed estimates for materials, labor, and equipment, factoring in location, production rates, and logistics

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure accurate job costing

Develop and submit professional bids, proposals, and cost reports under tight deadlines

Track historical pricing data and market trends to improve accuracy and competitiveness

Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and availability

Support hand-off between estimating and operations teams to ensure smooth project execution

Maintain organized records of past estimates and cost models for future reference
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of estimating experience, preferably in utility or civil construction
- Strong understanding of underground utility construction, including directional drilling, trenching, conduit installation, and concrete work
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications
- Familiarity with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent math, critical thinking, and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities
- Comfortable working on multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Skills (Not Required but a Plus):

Experience with fiber, electric, or telecom infrastructure estimating

Knowledge of Nebraska and Iowa regional markets and pricing

CAD or project modeling experience

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
