TJ Cable & Underground Services is looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented Underground Directional Drilling Worker to join our team in Omaha. This role is a critical part of our underground utility construction operations, supporting the installation of fiber, electric, and communication lines using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) methods.

Position: Underground Directional Drilling Worker (Full-Time)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska – Field-Based
Industry: Utility Construction | Horizontal Directional Drilling | Underground Installation
Pay: Competitive, based on experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate or assist with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to install underground conduit and utilities

  • Support safe and efficient drilling, pulling, and locating of underground utility lines

  • Perform site prep and restoration duties including potholing, trenching, and backfilling

  • Assist in loading/unloading equipment and maintaining a clean and safe job site

  • Follow direction from the HDD Operator and foreman and adhere to safety standards at all times

  • Read and interpret utility markings, site plans, and bore logs

  • Maintain equipment and tools and report maintenance needs promptly

  • Work as part of a tight-knit crew that values precision, communication, and accountability

Qualifications:

  • Previous utility construction or directional drilling experience is a plus—but training is available

  • Ability to follow instructions and work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Familiarity with Vermeer or Ditch Witch equipment is a plus

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and handle physically demanding tasks

  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required

  • Must be reliable, safety-minded, and a team player with a strong work ethic

Preferred Skills (Not Required but a Plus):

  • Experience operating HDD rigs, locating equipment, or mud systems

  • Knowledge of underground utility construction and safety protocols

  • CDL license and/or OSHA 10 certification
